Game Day Chicken Pasta – The Recipe Every Hockey Family Needs

Game Day Classic with a French Twist

When game day hits, the last thing anyone wants to deal with is a pile of dishes. That’s why this one-pot chicken pasta is a lifesaver. It's a game-day classic, but this time, we're making it with a French-inspired twist and keeping it super simple. Everything – pasta, sauce, and all – goes into one pot and cooks together. Less mess, more flavor, and you’re ready to fuel up without the hassle.

This genius method was made famous by the one and only Martha Stewart, and we’re putting it to good use here. You’ll cook the pasta and all the add-ins in one pot, letting those flavors meld together perfectly. The result? A rich, creamy, and satisfying pasta that’ll keep everyone happy and ready for the big game.

Pro Tips for One-Pot Cooking:

  1. Pick the right pasta. Skip the quick-cooking stuff! Go for a pasta that takes around 10-15 minutes to cook so it stays firm and doesn’t get mushy.
  2. Keep stirring. A few stirs while it’s cooking will keep the pasta from sticking together.
  3. Don’t wait for all the liquid to evaporate. Once the pasta is cooked, the extra liquid is your sauce! If it’s too much, just pour off a little, but don’t let it dry out completely.

Game Day Chicken Tarragon Pasta Recipe

What You’ll Need:

  • 14 oz (400g) chicken breast fillets
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 oz (350g) pasta
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 2 cups water (5 dl)
  • 1 ¼ cups apple juice (3 dl)
  • ¾ cup heavy cream (2 dl)
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ tsp dried tarragon
  • Salt to taste

How to Make It:

  1. Prep the ingredients: Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized cubes. Mince the garlic and slice the red bell pepper into strips.
  2. Brown the chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan. Quickly brown the chicken pieces and then set them aside in a separate dish.
  3. Build the flavor: In the same pan, add the garlic, bell pepper, pasta, bouillon cube, water, apple juice and capers. Stir in the Dijon mustard and tarragon.
  4. Cook it all together: Bring everything to a boil, then let it simmer for 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Finish with the chicken: Add the browned chicken pieces back into the pot, and cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the pasta and chicken are perfectly cooked.
  6. Season and serve: Taste and season with salt as needed. If the sauce looks a bit thin, let it reduce, but remember – that extra sauce is what makes it so good!

This dish is easy, flavorful, and packed with all the right ingredients to keep your hockey player fueled for game day.
